Vomiting or Diarrhea when you try to eat
What kind of esophageal or stomach problems would cause you to vomit immediately after swallowing one bite of food or diarrhea only after 3 bites of food, other than a virus? It is not viral and has been occuring w) occasional upper GI bleeds (not an ulcer either). I also have epigastric pain that worsens from eating (from reflux) when medications don't keep it under control.
History: mild gastritis, Barrett's esophagus, Gerd

So sorry you are having these symptoms. Really you should discuss this with your Dr. esp. vomiting and trouble eating. Barretts esophagus can lead to other disorders if not treated properly. Not only by medications but lifestyle changes.

Best Wishes,
Purple98LadyI did tell my doctor. I was put in the hospital & they ran some tests and did a gastric lavage. Yet they didn't give me a reason as to why I'm bleeding. I have follow up appts next week with 2 of my doctors. In the meantime, wishing I could figure this out. I know the pain from eating is from the reflux, I've had that problem since last year. I think the diarrhea & rapid transit time is from malabsorption of fats. My cholesterol was abnormal last time it was checked (Cholesterol 200 HDL 26 LDL 156). I received a note to decrease fats in my diet & start exercising. The majority of what I eat is fattening, I admit. But vomitting as soon as I swallow a bite of food. That one has me completely confused. I don't vomit every day and it usually happens from being so sick at my stomach. That one is understandable to me. I don't have any esphageal condition making swallowing difficult nor have much trouble with that, so I can't understand why one bite of food would make me vomit 4 times in a row. There was blood speckled in the vomit. Would the fact that you was bleeding make you that sick? I am worried about the bleeding because I know Barrett's can turn cancerous, but I'm trying to not assume the worst.
Thank you.I don't blame you for being worried esp. with your conditions. Did they do tests after the gastric lavage? Usually gastric lavage is done for drug overdoses or poison ingestions. The point remains your bleeding somewhere internally and they need to do every test to find out why. Please do as your Dr. directs and eat no fat and try to exercise. I'm no Dr. but I do know the esophagus is hard tissue to repair surgically so do everything you can by eating right to avoid further damage. By atleast eating the proper foods and taking the medications your Dr. has ordered you may find some relief. I certainly hope your next appointments shed some light into the bleeding. Ask them outright what their opinions are about cancer. Please let us know.

I had a plain x-ray, then bloodwork, urinalysis, more bloodwork, and then the gastric lavage during which they did another plain x-ray in the middle of it. (Usually gastric lavage is done for drug overdoses or poison ingestions.) --- They said they did this to clean out my stomach & to see if any blood came out. Do you think they thought I overdosed on something? I had attempted suicide years ago & was in that hospital because of it. I hope that isn't the reason they did that to me. I had tears rolling down my face begging them to take that out of me for a good hour because it was hurting me so bad. They didn't even numb my mouth before they put it in. I really thought this test was a bit EXTREME to test to see if I was bleeding from my upper GI tract. So it better have been the only reason it was done.
I'll be talking to my gastroenterologist later today.I was told today that the blood in my vomit may have been from an esophageal tear where I vomitted & seen the blood. That doesn't quite explain seeing it in my bowels 5 different days in the past 2 mnths. I was also told that it is completely normal to get diarrhea when you first start trying to eat. I am assuming my condition was blown off because I don't have anemia. But does that mean that it's not anything serious? Does it not matter if your insides bleed from time to time as long as it isn't massive bleeding? I can't even see what the point would be to even tell my doctor next time it happens. I would be more than happy to hear it doesn't matter but at this moment, I don't know what to think. Can a plain x-ray rule out a worsening esophageal problem or barrett's turning into cancer? Or does it not evaluate esophageal problems? The only thing the tests showed was the upper GI bleed and a mildy elevated akaline phospatase (I take accetaminophen daily for pain). Am I being totally stupid here for worrying about this?
