Vertigo: Rocking sensation in sync with heartbeat

I'm hoping someone can help me shed some light on my symptoms. I've been struggling with vertigo for over 3 months now and am looking for some better answers/directions to explore.

Synopsis: Currently I'm experiencing a forward and backward sensation, clearly synchronized to my heartbeat. Sensation is constant, even during sleep, and varies in intensity day to day and hour to hour. During the most intense phases I feel like my brain is at war with itself and there are all sorts of unpleasant anxiety sensations in my body.

All started in August, out of the blue, with classic spinning vertigo in the middle of the night. Gradually the vertigo sensations changed from spinning (lasted 3 days), to rocking, and now, for the past four weeks or so, a clearly defined feeling that my upper body is rocking back and forth in sync with my heartbeat.

I've consulted with 8 different doctors, had two brain MRIs, latest with dye, a cervical MRI, and full blood work, two rounds of ENG and caloric testing. We've pretty much ruled out Meniere's, Neuromas, brain tumors, MS, Ototoxicity, BPPV, infections, and psychogenic disorder.

I'm hoping this clear and distinct sensation I'm having now will point me in some clear directions to help me diagnose and treat this problem. So far my google searches for vertigo and heartbeat type key words only net me lots of Rock and Roll music sites. Vertigo is only amusing and entertaining for those who have not been stuck with it.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Not amusing at all and very irritating to say the least. Sorry you have this problem. When you search vertigo also type in inner ear. Have you been to an ENT?

http://www.michiganear.com/library/D/dizziness.htmlThanks for your response. I have consulted with:
3 ENTs
1 Neurologist
1 Neurosurgeon
1 Osteopath
3 Naturopathic MDs
1 Chinese Herbal Medicine/Acupuncturist

Only recently have I gotten some competant/willing to listen attention. Most recent ENT, who I respect, does not think the source of the problem is vestibular because of the ENG and caloric testing (only time I have nystagmus is when I'm supposed to). He is referring me to neurosurgeon next.

As I said I'm hoping the rocking in sync with heartbeat vertigo will be distinct enough to suggest clearer avenues to explore. I'll do some more searching on inner ear, but have yet to find someone reference this kind of symptom.Bump. Anyone? Still rocking here in time with my heartbeat.

I'm trying to explore the possibility of this being either Migraine Associated Vertigo, Cervical Vertigo (microvascualar compression). Last neurologist I saw shrugged and said he could not do anything for me.

Has anyone out on the WWW heard of pulsatile vertigo? That actually sounds like meniere's to me. Which is tricky to diagnose and best done by an otolarynologist (a head and neck surgeon). you treat it by low sodium diet (not salt you add to food you just watch the salt that is already in food), diuretics. I would go meet with an otolarynologist first. I had it for years before it was diagnosed correctly. I feel for you.Actually one of the distinctive differences between what I have and Meniere's is that with Meniere's the vertigo attacks only last up to around 24 hours, then go away for a time. My rocking sensation has been constant for almost six months.

That and the fact that I have no hearing loss, nor, according to the ENG and caloric testing, do I have any sign of vestibular damage.

So far I've polled three other forums and 12 doctors and nobody has heard of anything like pulsatile rocking/vertigo. Pulsatile tinntitus, yes. But my tinnitus is constant in my right ear and comes on in my left ear only during stronger attacks of the rocking sensation.

I would love to hear more from a neurologist who's got experience with microvascular compression.
