Total body burning sensation
My pain started 4 months ago with a slight tingle on the right side of my face. After one week, it began to feel numb. Three days later my entire right side went numb (very distinct- like someone had drawn a line down the center of me). This lasted about 12 hours. Then off and on tingling and numbness on various places (leg, arms, face, feet). Now for the last month and a half it has become a total body burning sensation. Constant. Have intermittent diarrhea and slight joint pain off and on. Neuro says neuropathy but doesn't know why. MRI normal, Blood work normal. Taking 900mg of gabapentin a day. HELP

Dear csew,
Thanks for your question. You don't tell much about yourself but you do describe a complex medical history and multiple symptoms, some of which at first reading seem unconnected. I trust you have been seen by the proper specialists, so I'm not going (and I can't) to second guess your own doctor/s. I'm positive that a neurologist has ruled out MS disease. Neurologist suggested neuropathy as the underlying cause for your symptoms. (Poly)neuropathy, in turn, can have several different underlaying causes, among most common of which are diabetes and alcohol.
You tell an MRI was done. Brain MRI or spine MRI?
Gabapentin is a good choice against neuropathic pain. You probably would benefit from searching more knowledge about pain in general and neuropathic pain specifically in here:

Hope this helps a little
Dr. SinuheDr. Sinuhe,
I do take atenolol and tekturna for high blood pressure. Also aciphex for GERD. I had my gallbladder removed in June of last year. Had 2 wisdom teeth removed in Oct. of 2006 (someone suggested this could be my problem-maybe toxins released but Dr. had no problem with removing them. I do not drink at all. Had brain MRI. My neuropathy affects every part of my body-from scalp to toes. Toes often go numb. You stated you had a brain MRI. Why hasn't the neurologist done a spine MRI?
Purple98LadyDon't really know why he hasn't ordered a spine MRI. His next step is to do a nerve conduction study in June. Not looking forward to that but if it will tell him anythin I'm all for it. I hate needles but we have to do what we must to get better. What would a spine MRI tell him? What conditions would it reveal? Here a link for spine MRI:

I would think with a spine MRI he could see if something could be pressing on a nerve etc. A good thing for the nerve conduction test, but where will they test, face, arms, legs, oh my.
I've had this test on my arms and its not so bad. Nerves are very funny things , I sure hope you get some answers soon.Purple98Lady
