the difference between DVT pain and muscle pain
Can anyone clarify me on whether there are differences in the kind of leg pain felt in DVT and simple muscle pain? I tried looking it up but the data varies. In one site it said that pain in DVT is felt when you flex. (So that means no aches when you're just standing?)
And follow up questions--ca you have multiple DVTs at the same time? Can DVT form in the buttock area?

Welcome to the forum and thanks for your question. Here's the link to my answer:
http://askdoctorjoshua.com/2007/03/0...-symptoms-dvt/Thank you for answering, Doctor. Would you mind if I ask another question related to that? It might sound a little stupid, mind you.
You see, I'm a little worried about my friend having DVT. She had gone to sleep one night EDIT1--[with her pajama bottoms rolled up to] just above the knee on both legs, and it was pretty tight, almost like a tourniquet. (She said it was because the bottom half of the pant legs were wet and she was too sleepy to change.) I can't recall when that night was, but it was likely EDIT3--[within] the last two weeks. She has a history of not taking enough liquids. And drinks caffeinated ones. Two or three days ago she drank less than usual because of a stressfl project. She went through one day drinking only one small bottled water and didn't drink the rest of the day until late at night, when she drank lots of coffee or tea. I don't remember which. The morning after that day she was dehydrated until the afternoon. Now she's begun complaining of aches in the back thigh in one leg and aches in the spot just below the back of the knee on the other leg. The pain is like muscle pain and it could be for all I know caused by bad sleeping position but she doesn't sleep on her back. And with that history... She says it only aches when she walks and sits down (the leg with the thigh problem also has an ache in the buttock but the two are different aching spots) and moves her legs and not when just standing. It has gotten worse now than when she first felt it. I'm worried because I read online that dehydration causes blood to thicken, plus the tourniquet-like maneuver she did seemed dangerous. What are your thoughts on this? How much risk does she have of DVT? She can't immediately take time off because of other projects, so is this possibility a real problem to consider going to the doctor for?
She's in her early twenties, if that is going to be relevant.
EDIT2--[And if this is going to be relevant, shortly before she had aches in her thigh and calf she complained of aches in her lower back.]
