Simply migraines? Or something more to it?
During the past month I've had what I thought were just really strange migraines, after it happened the third time, now I'm not so sure.
The first time it happened I had just arrived at work. I suddenly felt nauseated and felt a headache coming on. Within a matter of minutes my head was throbbing, thought it felt like the pain was only affecting my right temple area. Not long after that, my vision got distorted, I couldn't focus on anything looking at it straight on, I had to look just to the left or right of what I wanted to see to see it out of the corner of my eye. This is pretty typical of a migraine for me, though I don't get them on a regular basis. I felt extremely dizzy too, and a co-worker asked me what was wrong. I tried to tell him and the words just wouldn't come out right, I felt like I was slurring. I was sitting at my desk and I couldn't even stand up, I really felt like I was going to be sick, but my body didn't want to move.
Then all of a sudden my middle finger on my left hand went completely numb. The numbness seemed to spread to my other fingers, one after another they all went numb, like the feeling you get if you sit on your foot for too long, the feeling just before the pins and needles hit you. It didn't affect my thumb for some reason, but the other four fingers on my left hand stayed like that for a good 10 minutes.
This all lasted about 15 minutes total from the inital onset. After the feeling came back into my fingers again, it was like the migraine just up and left. I had a slightly nagging headache for a few hours after, but nothing bad enough to make me need to leave work.
I've now had this happen on 3 separate occasions in the past month. Each time the process is pretty much the same, only difference has been the order in which my fingers have went numb.
I don't think these are "just" migraines. But the initial part of whatever is going on feels like one. I've also never had a 15 minute migraine before. LOL Usually they last hours, or even days, but I've never become so suddenly immobilized by one before. Well I have, but it didn't feel like a migraine. I was in emergency last year after getting a sudden severe headache that felt like something had exploded in my head. I ended up waiting to go in, but about 36 hours after it happened, I was still immobilized. The only way the pain was relieved was if I was laying flat. Sitting or standing brought on this immense pressure and severe pain. When I got to emerg, they took me in almost immediately and did a CT scan and later a spinal tap because they thought I'd had an aneurysm. Everything was clear though, but they said it was maybe because I had waited so long to see a doctor after it initially happened. I was told if I ever had that happen again to get to the hospital immediately. They also thought it could have been a side effect from the shots I was on (Lupron). Whatever the heck it was it was TERRIBLE. I was bedridden for 3 weeks following that "explosion". I was in tears if I sat or stood, though I was given demerol to take to ease the pain enough that I could go to the bathroom and eat every so many hours.

I suggest that you should go to a doctor and have it check out. As the famous saying Prevention is Better than Cure. You don't want to be checked out if the problem is really big don't you?Oh yes, of course I'm going to get checked out.
Right now I don't have a family doctor, I just moved and have to find a new one, but I have the name and number of one close by who is taking on new patients and am calling today for an appointment. It's just that around here, it usually takes a couple of weeks to get in to see your doctor, I was just looking for some input before hand because it's bothering me and I can't get anything done right this moment.
