Seizure Medication
Hi
My son has suffered from grand mal to complex partial seizures as a result of a traumatic brain injury several years ago. His seizures are now under control with the use of Keppra and Depakote. He takes his medication 2 times a day approzimately 12 hours apart. My question is what is the general rule of thumb when one misses a morning dose and doesn't realize it until late afternoon? I do not want to risk over dosing but at the same time I don't want to risk him having another seizure. Thank you for your advice.

Actually, I take both of these medications (Depakote 250 in the am, 500 in the pm / Keppra 500 in the am, 1000 in the pm). I take them at about 8 in the morning and 8 at night. I'll usually just skip it if it's past noon, but if it's still morning I'll go ahead and take the next dose. I've taken too much Depakote before trying to make up for a missed dose, and it makes me feel uncomfortable like I may have a seizure. I'm sure my body's different from everyone else's though, so I'd ask him how he's dealt with his medication in those situations in the past and how it made him feel. Too much medication can be just as bad as too little.
