Quick Question

I have a question regarding some health issues that I am experiencing. I had H Pylori a couple of years ago and have undergone two surgeries (one for a Hernia and One for 2 broken ankles). I am 6'2 and weigh only 120 pounds on a lucky day. I also do not sleep on a regular schedule. I often get sick about 1-2 times a month (cold like symptoms). I take Vitamin's every day and still get sick more frequently than most people. I am experiencing chronic Diarrhea and I have a yellow oozy type of material (sometimes brown and slimy and very smelly) from my buttocks. When I do get sick, I often feel very fatigued and weak and it usually takes a bunch of antibiotics to get me well again. Yet, I get sick again and it is a continuous cycle. I have been tested for HIV and it has come back negative and I am going to see an immunologist next week. I am 25 years old and like I said, I can gain about 10 pounds and get sick again loosing that weight I have gained. I have never been over 130 pounds. Other symptoms include - vision problems (sometimes blurry), dizziness, and often feeling cloudy headed. The doctors are kind of stuck on what the possible causes might be and I was just wondering if you have ever heard of any like this in a young male and/or if you know of any additional tests that can be done to determine what is causing this illness. I guess I am afraid that I will someday become immune to antibiotics (as much as I take them).

Hi ded666,

Welcome to the forum. My goodness, this sounds like awful symptoms to live with. I'm curious if your Dr. has done an upper and lower GI series or endoscopy. Do you have recurring ulcers and do you keep getting the helicobacter pyloris infection that requires antibiotics? What medications are you on? These symptoms sound drastic, esp with your age and not being able to gain and retain weight. I certianly hope all is being done for you that can be. Glad your going to the immunologist. Keep us posted.

Purple98LadyThanks for the reply - I wasn't sure if anyone would reply

I have done all the GI Tests and they did find the H pyloris a couple of years ago. Is this able to come back? I had a endoscopy done and that's how they were able to find out about the H Pyloris. I sometimes get a cramping feeling on my side frequently (not sure if that has anything to do with any of these symptoms). My mother has psoriasis and that's pretty much all the major medical history my family carries. Right now I am taking Amoxicillin to kill off whatever infection I have - but like I stated before, the symptoms just keep comming back even after I complete the antibiotics (I am mainly concerned that my body will become immune to Antibiotics and won't be able to defend itself any longer). I was just curious if anyone had ever heard of symptoms like these. It's to the point it's affecting my work and my life in general.I was reading the helicobacter pylori can cause ulcers which is why I asked. I didn't know if your diet was a problem too if you have ulcers. It can return if not completely irradicated with the antibiotic therapy thus causing ulcer problems. Ask your Dr. just what infection your being treated for. Maybe a nutritionist as well would be able to help. Thanks for your replies Purple - I will repost when I go see the Doctor[font="Garamond"][/FONT,

Hello ded666,

I was researching some information for my husband, and came upon your message. Even though it was a while ago, I couldn't resist responding. I have not done these posts before, but yours struck a chord with me because so many of your symptoms could be related to Celiac Disease. I have an 18 year-old daughter who was diagnosed when she was 2 and have been involved over the years with a Celiac Support Group. Through this I met many people of all genders, diagnosed at all ages and learned a lot about the disease.

Do you know if you have been tested for Celiac? The first stage is a blood test but the only way to make a positive diagnosis is with an endoscopy. In case you have not heard of this before, Celiac disease is an intolerance to gluten (the protein in wheat, oats, barley, rye and some other grains). The villi in your intestine, which absorb the nutrients from the food you eat, become damaged and you basically become malnourished. Their are some "typical" symptoms, but one can have it without those symptoms. An excellent website to give you the medical information is Revolutionhealth.com. Look under conditions, digestive, celiac disease. The content is provided by Mayo clinic and is very accurate.

Check it out and see if it's a possibility. Celiac can have some serious complications and it's is essential to be properly diagnosed through an endoscopy before following a gluten-free diet, to insure accuracy. A gluten-free diet is a lot to get used to for an adult, but the drastic change in health(which it often is), gives the motivation to continue.

If you pursue this avenue and it is positive, let me know. I have many recipes, ideas and resources through the 16 years, so far, that we have dealt with this. By the way, my daughter is thriving, and considers celiac as nothing more than a minor inconvenience at times.
