Possibility of MS...Help me understand my results PLEASE
Hi I have a few questions not sure if anyone can help but I would appreciate any advice. I am a 30 year old female. I have suffered from chronic headaches for about 5 years with some of the migrains. I have also had lower back pain and shoulder/neck pain for several years.I also always for several years have struggled with always being tired. I honestly never followed up with these things with my dr I just dealt with them. About 3 months ago I started getting numbness in my left leg/foot. I finally desided to go the the dr and he ordered lab work/ Brain MRI and EMG/NCS test. Also told me to schedule a appt with a neurologist. I got my results from the EMG/NCS and they are as follows... NCS shows moderate electodiagnostic evidence of left common peroneal neuropathy, involving axons greater then myelin. Normal EMG, showing no electrodiagnostic evidence os significant denevation in muscles served by peroneal nerve. My MRI results are as follows...finding there are a few scattered punctate areas of increased signal on flair and t2-weighted images the larfest is about 5 or 6 mm near the left posterior sylvian fissure. there is also a very subtlearea surrounding the occipital horn of the right lateral ventricle and one anteriroly inthe periventricular right frontal. may be a small subcortical lesions in the left frontal anterior. these are all isointense to normal brain on t1. there is no hemorrhafe surrounding edema mass effect. no extra-axial fluid collection is seen. the visualized poster fossa brainstgem and craniocervical junction appeared to be normal. There is some minor ethmoid sinusitis. the mastoid are now well pneumatized. Impression-scattered puncated areas of increased signal are seen as described above. these are the cells nospecific but are perhaps more numerous than on typically sees in a patient of his age. possibly of demyelinating process such as multiple sclerosis or vasculistis would be difficult to exclude. chronic headaches with migraines can cause white matter signal changes and therefore tis is nonspecific and further evaluation should be based clinically. I went to the neuroligist today and she just threw me off really . Set up a spinal tap for ms. and then put me on meds for my headaches and said to come back in 2 months. Man oh man I was pretty upset I mean what about the back pain and the numbing..I am really frustrated and I honestly don't understand the test results so if anyone could help me out that those I would appreciate it. Oh and my spinal tap is Thrusday, I am kinda scared. Thanks for reading this long post!!
