Numbness, upper left abdomen, below rib

I have a fairly large, maybe 3 inch diameter area of numbness which appeared suddenly today and has lasted all day. It is on and surrounding the lowest rib on the upper left, the pointy part. There is no rash, and I have not done any sports or anything likely to be injurious to it. Looking in the mirror, the ribs there protrude more than on the right side, and there is more depression underneath. I do not know if it was that way before. My doctor has me on Prevacid to prevent GERDS. I had an renal ultrasound yesterday to scan because of abnormal tissue in my urethra/bladder transition area, probably nothing according to urologist. The tech did not detect anything unusual enough to notify radiologist. My kidneys, bladder, and uterus were visible in the ultrasound. Waiting on results of that.

Is this kind of numbness associated with kidney sonography? Feeling occasional pains in lower left abdomen but I think this is gas and is not too unusual for me. Very disconcerting numbness. If I press on it, I do have sensation there, but my body keeps reacting to a weird feeling like some part of my body has vanished. Never had anything like this before. Do I need to see a neurologist? Nephrologist? Gastroenterologist?

I am diabetic type 1, no history of neuropathy, creatinines and BUN always normal. I do smoke, have tried to quit. We have tried all kinds of methods. I also have a blistery rash on both inner thighs which doctor thinks is from yeast and is resolving itself. Medications are just insulin and prevacid.
