neurologic ques. for dr j?

hello, i posted a question earlier about my girlfriends eyes, she complains of seeing pulsing purple spots, or "stars" sometims in her peripheral vision.well she has seem her opthamologist, he gave her complete exam w/dilated pupils,and said she has weak retinas,but could not find an answer about the spots. he sent her to see a retina man, who again dilated her pupils and gave an exam. he found beginnings of cataracts but said theyre ok for now.,then he gave her an injection of orange vegatable dye and took pics of her retinas to see if he could find new vessels, but could not, and he could not find an answer,told her to see a neurologist.well... thats what leads me here. the retina guy said they definitlt sound like ocular migraines, she sees them everyday,. less when in a dim lit room more when outside in the sun. and today she said she could hardly notice them. shestill has central vision,but wonders if theres anything neurolgic about this. also,i've read there are medications for ocular migraines, do you know of these medications?

my girlfriend went to see her family dr on monday, he seems to think its spasms in the blood vessels behind the eyes. i also must mention they get less and less right after she eats.ive been doing more research on the net and i found that spasms in the back of the head can cause the spots.she does have neck pain and stiff muscles in the neck and back of her head.
her cholesterol as of monday was 299. her dr put her on zocor, we'll see what happens.
