Hi wesley_rachelle
I'm not qualified to project anyones chances. I'm really sorry to hear of these injuries your sister has sustained. You can search each one with the google bar. These are very serious injuries. I'm sure she is receiving the best possible care. Try and take one day at a time and discuss with her Dr.s all questions regarding recovery/time frames. With brain injuries its a sometimes slow waiting process even before Dr.'s can give you percentages for recovery. I certainly hope for the very best and will keep you and your sister in my prayers. Please keep us posted.
Purple98LadyHi, thank you for your question and sorry to hear about your sister.
Unfortunately the information you posted is not sufficient for me to make comment. First of all, please discuss your concerns with the attending neurosurgeon - then, if you want me to help you understand the situation better, I'd be happy to, but please provide some more detail, such as what is the neurological condition of your sister, i.e. how is she doing? Is she conscious or unconscious, if latter then what is her Glasgow Coma Score, what kind of accident and what was the initial condition when she was admitted, are there any other trauma to other parts of the body and so on.Her neurosurgeons are never around and when they are, they always talk with her mom (she is a half sister) her mom has been having nervous brakedowns anytime it is even mentioned. Her GCS is 7 under sedation, she hit a tree on the left side of the car towards the front, the car then swung around the tree, the passenger was ejected out of the back of the car. When she first got to the hospital she was in a deep coma and dond have a good chance of survival. When she arrived her GCS was 3. She know responds to simple commands like "wiggle you right toes". She just started moving her eyes around today. As far as vocal she got a tracheatomy yesterday, so she coundln't make any noise because her breathing machine was in her mouth. But she is moving her tounge in and out, she had a big cut on her lip so the nurse says, "it hurts her to move her mouth". Her swelling of the brain is 13 (ppi?) it was initially like 40 ( not all the way sure thats what they said). They said her improvment is never seen, they are keeping her under sedation beacuase everytime they try to lower it she becomes very active ( trying to get up, kicking and flinging her arms around) they think she might try to remove tubs and IV. She seems like she is just wanting to wake up and move so bad but she just cant. she seems uncounsiuos , but she sqeeuzed my hand when you ask her ( Amanda its me your sister rachel squeeze my hand if you remember me)
sorry i didn't give enough infoit's great that she is improving so much - if she is conscious now, she has every chance of a good recovery. Of course, this is just a general statement - young people regaining consciousness so quickly have generally good prognosis, but as I'm sure you understand I cannot say anything specific about your sister's prognosis, because although you gave me good information about her case, only her attending doctors have all the information needed to make a prognosis - and with brain trauma, even then making a prognosis is difficult.
So, judging by the limited information that I do have, I'm optimistic about her recovery. It will take time, though, and patience and perseverance is needed.
Please keep me posted on developments and feel free to ask further questions.Today they too her off life support, she is now breathing and beating on her own they also took her out of ICU to the TRACU!!!! :) :) :)
