medication for ADD that doesn't enhance anxiety?
Greetings,
I have been on medication for Anxiety for many years now (Xanax). I am also a graduate student and seem to be experiencing many of the typical sypmtoms of ADD. I have a Psychiatrist I see every three months, but thought I would seek an opinion before approaching him about new medication. From research, I am familiar with the most common medications for ADD/ADHD--prescription amphetamene of some kind. My question is, is there or has there been any success with drugs that are not powerful stimulants such like Adderal or ritilan? I have a feeling that if I were to be put on one of these highly classified narcotics that they would perhaps help my ADD symptoms but increse my anxiety, thus trading one symptom for another. I don't exhibit any ongoing signs of depression or Bipolar illness, as have been looked into by my doctor, but definitely have symptoms of ADD that I believe to have had before starting anxiety medication.
Any advice on this topic or suggested medications to bring up with my doctor would be much appreciated.
