Lytic lesion of the skull, is this serious?
I am a 57 year old female with a nickle size lucint lytic lesion of the skull just to the right of the crown of my head. This started with a small depressed area the size of the tip of my little finger and has become deeper and thined out in the last three months, and I can feel two other small areas developing. My family physician referred me to a oncologist/hemotologist and I have had CAT scans of my head, a MRI of my spine, and blood work with protein levels, and everything comes back normal. Since I am asymptomatic the oncologist/hemotologist suggests that we wait 3 to 4 months and do another CAT scan and measure this area to see if the lesion is increasing in size. I know that this "hole" in my skull is not normal and it is hard to just "wait and see". Do you have any suggestions? Should I ask for a second opinion, if so, what kind of specialist should I contact?
I appreciate any information that you can give.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
I'm not qualified to tell you just how serious this is. The fact your primary physician sent you to an oncologist, which is a Dr. that studys and treats cancer, would lead me to believe it is serious. Have you had cancer in the past? It may be a good idea to ask both your Dr.s since they know your medical history, and the prognosis for such a lesion. Write all your questions down and ask. Good Luck to you and do let us know.
