is there such thing as "chronic" appendicitis?

I know doctors don't acknowledge this diagnosis--it is either nothing or a full-blown attack with vomiting, fever, etc. Since my first post a couple of days ago, the abdominal pain seems to be more right-sided, several inches directly to the right of my navel, a nagging ache that is tender to palpation but not excruciatingly so. It is enough that I don't feel totally well but not severe enough to justify an ER visit. There is intermittent constipation. My primary office brushes it off and simply says "wait for my GI appt. in November" (think I will change my primary doc). Can an appendix simply be inflamed without an all-out attack with fever, vomiting, etc.? I am wondering if this could be causing the constipation, or if the long-term constipation, i.e. stool in the colon for long periods of time, could eventually cause an inflammation of the appendix? I have not heard of this, but if it is this, I would prefer to catch it now and treat it with antibiotics or something as I am terrified of the thought of ending up in an operating room by waiting "too long." Anyone who has experienced "chronic appendicitis", please help!
