I can't stand and/or walk more than 5 or 10 minutes... help???

Hello all, I am new to this website!
I have serious spinal injuries which I will eventually describe in more detail. But to sum up my current condition, I am in pain 24/7 despite taking oxycontin, hydrocodone, and gabapentin. While I have localized pain in several areas the most disabling symptoms come from being vertical. If I stand and/or walk more than an hour or so in a 24 hour period, my pain turns to dull, yet intense ache that radiates out from my lower lumbar region. It often gets so bad that I get nauseous and basicly unable to function beyond eating orperforming bathroom duties.

I had major fusion at L3-4 about 11 years ago but this current state has only been with me a little over 4 years ago.
I can only have myelograms and diskograms due to the fact that stainless steel hardware was installed during the surgery. These days titanium is used so there is no iron to throw off the NRI machine. In addition to pain meds I try to manage some low impact cardio exercise. I also own an inversion table for de-compressing, which does give some releif, if only temporary.

What I would like to know is, are there any new procdeures that can help people with severe injuries? I already know that artificial disks are not an option. I have also flunked some other screenings for new procedures, and have been told that it is hopeless at this point. Oh sure I could get a couple more fusions for the disks that have ruptured due to the domino effect. I am also sufficiently overweight thanks to going from a job where I was on my feet all day, to a situation where I can't do that any more. I also quit smoking a few years ago, and between the two, I have inflated to the tune of 80 pounds which I know isn't helping the situation.

I do get great temorary releif from a hot bath, tub or springs! Are there any other diversions that might help? I will definitly continue my story as comments appear. Later, folks...
