How Bazarre is this??
How bizarre is this? My 9 year old grandson had an episode (there have been others the last 2 months, this decribes the last one) that started out with weak legs ending a very odd walk til he crimpled on down it was as if his legs were fighting against each other. Sat him down on the sofa and he banged his legs together for approx. five minutes and settled down. Walked some even. Approx. an hour later he can''t control his legs or walk. His hands and fingers begain to move and twist around. One hand twisting the other around. Then all over body jerking, hitting himself, thrashing, but allert. He is talking to us. Saying it will not let me stop. He wants to stop. He is twisting his hips even as we hold him so he will not hurt himself. His head hoding to one side for several seconds. He said "don''t let me bite you, I don''t want to" then he tries to bite..... any comments. Yes we are seeing doctors and childrens hospital, but symptoms are rapidly changing. No appointment til March 7th. I could add a lot more, but this is the episode 1 week ago. He walks and does not walk.

Well I was sure hoping for some commet. No one has ever experienced such?I can't say I personally have ever experienced this is a child. I'm more curious about as to why the clonidine was prescribed , it is used for several different conditions. Also was your grandson completely normal functioning physical/mentally prior to his most recent symptoms. I'm glad he is being seen at childrens hospital and please let us know how he is doing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ClonidineApproximately 2 months ago when this all started, he showed signs of tics before an episode. So he was prescribed Clonidine to slow this down. Which we thought it did. He would sniff on and on or clear his throat, especially if he is reading to you or just talking on and on. Pretty hyperactive acting. The Clonidine seemed to slow all this down, but then the more violent convulsions? began. Also during this time and previous to this he has had all over body aching. It also concerns me because this is not the first time he has not been able to walk. At age 2 he had a spell one day where his legs just seemed to go out from under him. Then around age 3 on 2 different occasions he had to be carried to the bathroom and to daycare, he had difficulty for 3 days each time. He was tested for cycle cell when he was 3. Then again at age 4, because he started have all over body aches, also rhumatoid arthritis. Tests and blood test show nothing. MRI normal, done about a month ago. For the last 2 weeks he has used a wheel chair in school. Yesterday and today he walked. Between 3-4 years old he use to complain about having a "bad leg", his right leg hurt and seemed weak often.
He has had difficulty sleeping these last couple months. Everyday for the last 2 months seems to be different.
That is enough for now. Too much these last 2 months. And getting a doctor to see you is difficult. Due to the unusual symptoms local doctors AND emergency rooms prefer we don't bring him to them. We have to go to Childrens hospital 2 1/2 hours away. This is very stressful to see a child suffer and not know what to do.
Very sad indeed.Oh I forgot to answer you on how he was previous to the last 2 months. Doing good really. He played on a football team and did very well this past fall. But would hurt pretty bad after a game. He would have to rest or take a nap after a game. His was not so hyper active. After we thought about it he has been doing the throat clearing for some time, but we never thought that much about it, just a bit irritating. Then the nose sniffing began these last two months. We haven't noticed him doing either since he has been on the Chonidine, unless he is tired.One more thing. We have been wondering if he could have some type of Dystonia??
