Growing tics in child

Hello all.

My wife and I have noticed an increasing number of tics in our seven year old son. About two years ago we noticed he began twitching his nose. Then he began twiching his eyes and mouth. Within the past year he's been shaking his head. Two nights ago he began to shake his right arm. Tonight he is keeping both his arms about 6" out from the sides of his body and shakes them. The facial tics also continue, although at a somewhat reduced frequency.

Essentially he's been slowly developing more and more tics over time. No vocal tics thus far. But tonight really concerned my wife and I as the tics in his arms seems to have come on so suddenly.

An appointment with a neurologist had been made, however our health coverage recently changed so we've got to get set up with another doctor under our current plan. Still planning on having him seen ASAP by a doctor.

At this point of course we're scared to death and thinking the worst... Brain tumors, cancer, etc.

Any ideas or advice for us? How should we document what we are seeing so the doctor who evaluates him will know what to look for, or will any trained neurologist know what he's looking at? What could it be?

I can understand your worry regarding your son. It may be a good idea to take him into a local emergency room esp with his symptoms, there they can do testing and even he may be seen by their neurologist. This should be addressed asap. Please let us know how he does.
