Gallbladder surgery or FiberCon and Prilosic
2007 has been the worst year of my life. In March I has classic symptoms of gallbladder attack. I have had ultrasound of stomach (swollen liver), ct scan (no gallstones) gallbladder emptying scan (dumping at 13%), colonscope and endoscopes of stomach (no ulcer or bacteria).
I am schedule for gallbladder surgery on June 26, 2007. A few days ago I went back to Gastroenterolgy Dr. for follow up and he went ballistic because I am having surgery. His diagnosis was Diverticulitis. He explained away all reason for surgery as follows. Liver function high (You weight over 225lbs, you have a fatty liver), dumping % (13 not bad ,muscle can be made to constrict), and said that the only reason for surgery recommendation is because I am a diabetic. The Gastroenterolgy Dr. said if I would only take FiberCon for the diarrhea and take Prilosic 20mg for the stomach that all problems would just go away. I find this hard to believe! What do you think? Is it possible that the only reason for the surgery is because I am diabetic? This would be surgery #14 for me and I sure don’t want other if not needed. The pharmacist had not heard of FiberCon to be used for diarrhea stoppage. I have now been on FiberCon 2 tablet 3 times a day for 4 days. I am still in the bathroom all the time, it is not as watery but I have the dry heaves and stomach pain a lot more.
I am so afraid that I am doing the wrong thing by having surgery . I also feel that I am making myself sicker with this fiber and the prilosic. Prilosic makes me itch so bad that I cry all the time. I called and asked for help from Gastroenterolgy Dr. but was told to just take a Benadryl. My life has become a hell and I do not know how to get out!! I live in a small town so a new doctor would be many miles away and getting all these test results together would be almost impossible. No one likes to give out information even if it is my information. Been down that road before with 14 surgeries.
