Dr please help. Severe pain after epidural
Hi, I had a steroidal epideral a month ago yesterday for lower back pain that radiates to my leg. Afterward, I was in severe pain all the way up to my neck with the worst pain in my mid back. I also lost control of my bowels the day after injection. This also happened about three days ago. Both times,I woke up & had lost control. (embarrassing but true) This had never happened before. I kept calling the office & they said it was normal to be in pain for around 5 days. After 5 days, I went to the Er. At the ER, they said I had a fever & my white blood cell count was up a little (I believe it was 10-12). Also, I was dehydrated. Probably because I was in so much pain, I couldn't eat or drink. I recieved a shot of rocephin, Soma & percocet to take at home. Also, a normal MRI. When I saw the Dr. a couple of days later, he said he thought it was severe muscle spasms but wasn't sure why. He said it was like my whole back was in spasms. He told me to continue the muscle relaxers 3x per day,Percocet & Motrin as needed. (I usually have to take both alternately 2 percocets & 4 motrin a day) I also recieved a tens unit & I go to PT 3x per week. Depite all of this, I am still in severe pain, the weird thing is the most severe pain is quit a bit above the injection site. I believe I was injected between L1 & L2. My entire back hurts but is extremely painful mid way up. The Dr. says he has given 50+ of these injections & has never seen this. He actually said that he really doesn't know how to treat me since he didn't know why it happened. I appreciate the honesty but I am in agony. I never had upper back pain before & its so much worse than the lower pain now. Any ideas what this could be? What should I do next? Thanks so much
