Brain Watching
One of my interests is chronic pain conditions. I remeber reading about a year ago about brain watching as a form of pain control. With a MRI and seeing your brain activity in the parts that control pain or preception of pain. This being a way of moderating your pain.
Has anyone been fortunate enough to be a part of this, or any new information on this? Have you ever tried to meditate and watch your own brain. Thats a hard visual.
With so many people living with chronic pain RSD etc., maybe one day this expensive brain watching will be a reality. Any information greatly appreciated.

That sounds interesting. Is that a form of biofeedback?
Treating chronic pain is very difficult. It seems the more effective the method of pain relief, the more risks there are, such as addiction, and the more out of it a person gets. For instance, when I was in the hospital, morphine was great for my pain, but I can't imagine going to school or doing anything else that I do while on it. I think its important to develop other methods of pain relief that are safer and can be used long term. Brain watching sounds like one such method, and while it psycologically may have analgesic capabilities, I'm skeptical of it reaching the same efficacy of opoids or other physical modalities. I think it becomes an involved decision for each patient of how much pain relief he needs versus the resulting loss of productivity and the risks involved.I second that. There are new methods of pain relief, but for some conditions they just don't work and in many terminal diseases people still suffer with uncontrolable pain. There are people that have to survive living with unbearable pain on a daily basis.
As I recall, I can't find the article now it was not invasive, just the expense of the mri machine which is great and its not excepted as yet. A bio-feedback technique I would think.
At any rate forget the pills give me an indwelling smpathetic nerve block cont. drip. or a morphine pump, so that I could bear the pain and try to enjoy life as long as I can. Then maybe I could concentrate on relaxation technigues, bio-feedback, guided imagery and the like.
Thanks for your feedback.
