abdominal troubles
I'm a 30 year old female that has been suffering off and on for 2 years with abdominal discomfort. 2 years ago it started with nausea, weakness, lack of appetite. My Dr and I thought it might be my birth control (depo) so I switched to the Nuvaring. Felt better for a while, then would have bouts of this same feeling lasting a day to a week; could be gone for months at a time before showing up again. Over the past few months it's been getting worse again and much more frequent. Typically feel poorly in the evening, not related to if I eat or not. Feel nauseated, crampy in the upper abdomen. Usually no diarrhea, and no vomiting. Also had hot flashes at times. Over the past several months I've had head CT + MRI (negative), numerous blood tests (neg), abd CT then MRI. Abd scans showed abnormalities to pancreas area, ended up having an EGD which showed a diverticuli to that area which was showing up as fullness in my CT. Biopsies for celiac, h-pylori all neg. Also took abx incase of giardia; no change in symptoms. This month when I put in my nuvaring as it was due, within a couple hrs I felt quite nauseated, hot flashes as if I had the stomach flu. Got better the next day, but came and went over next couple days. Decided maybe all these symptoms are related to birth control and removed nuvaring a week ago. Haven't had any more hotflashes, but continue to have nausea/abd discomfort mostly in the evening. Could this all be hormonal and take a while to adjust? Am taking levsin as needed with small amount of relief.
Sorry this is so long! Would appreciate any thoughts...my Dr is running out of ideas!

Hi destria,
Sorry you haven't been feeling well. This must be really frustrating for you. If you've been on birth control for awhile, I would imagine it would take awhile for your body to adjust after stopping the birth control. What did your doctor say about the pancreatic abnormality he found and the diverticuli ? Does he not think they are contributing to your abdominal pain? I hope you get to the bottom of this soon!Thank you for writing back, I appreciate it. The GI MD who did my scope basically said that the diverticuli is small and he does not believe it would be causing any of my symptoms. And apparently it was that diverticuli that was making my scans show my pancreas as being odd; the CT was unclear, but the MRI was pretty sure that the fullness to my pancreas could be due to the diverticuli....and sure enough they found one. I'm still feeling nauseated pretty much every day, and somewhat anxious too...it's very frustrating. My GI dr said that if my symptoms are hormone/birth control related, it could take up to 2 months for me to feel better while my body gets balanced again. I guess after all this time I'm so frustrated at not knowing what the problem is that it's hard for me to wait! I wonder when I should make yet another appointment with my primary dr to think of any other options. I should probably wait 2 months I suppose. Maybe I just need someone besides my all-enduring husband to sound off against. :) Thanks.
