When to keep asking for answers - ?
Hello Drs Joshua and Sinhue:
Thank you for offering this venue to ask for assistance. I have been fighting chronic, increasing pain, for several years which has been attributed to Fibromyalgia. My history of: DVTs, SVTs, PE, Bell's X4, Sinusitis, no sensation vaginally or when urinating, intercostal infections, yeast infections (vaginally and orally), miscarriage X5, eclampsia with HELLP syndrome, orbital pseudotumor, neuropathy (feet), back spasms, high blood pressure, vertigo, migraines and etc. have resulted in an off and on diagnosis of Behcet's Disease (off because my vaginal and oral ulcers are rare, I believe). And I just plain get sick a lot, not terribly, but consistently.
The most recent issues have been the neuropathy in my feet and the return of frequent back spams. My doctors (whom I respect and appreciate) are treating each symptom as it comes along.
Here is the question: Should I stop asking for a diagnosis that addresses my issues or continue to address each symptoms (when possible)? I cannot help but feel that my body is communicating a lack of homeostasis that should be addressed. I know my doctors are busy and have many other patients but I honestly want more than a great talk and refills.
Thank you for your time,
Laenake

headaches and sleep
I guess I'm just looking for more information about the relationship between headaches and sleep. I am not sure I really understand some of the experiences I've had relating to these two things.
Here's some information:
When I was young, I had headaches about once a week or more for many years, which is what caused me to start carrying around Advil everywhere I go.
In high school I started drinking substantial amounts of caffeine, and now if I don't have any I will usually get a mild headache.
In 11th and 12th grade my sleep patterns were intensely and repeatedly disrupted. In 12th grade in the fall I frequently went 5-6 days at a time sleeping only 3-4 hours per day. Often I would sleep far longer on Sunday, and usually woke up with a headache after the longer amounts of sleep. I hardly ever got headaches during the week when I wasn't sleeping enough, except for the caffeine headaches which were less intense.
On one occasion I slept about 3 hours a day for 6 days and then slept 14 hours. I woke up with the most intense headache I have ever experienced, which I call a "migraine" because it shared most of the symptoms. I couldn't think about anything other than pain, which seemed like something between sleep and wakefulness. I vomited several times. Advil did nothing (it took me a while even to obtain any, because I could hardly move). The pain was reduced by dinnertime; I could move and think again.
Since then I have had two more migraines. Both occurred after relatively long nights of sleep, however neither sleep shift was as extreme as the case I detailed. In fact, since fall of 12th grade, I have never allowed myself to go more than about two days in a row on 3 hours of sleep. I should point out that I have shifted from small to large amounts of sleep many times and not all of them resulted in such intense headaches.
Now I'm in college, and sleeping more. However, I still sleep less during the week than on weekends, and I'm concerned that every time I get "enough" sleep (even during the week) I seem to get a mild headache. Even over the summer, when my sleep pattern finally stabilized at about 9 hours a day, I got frequent headaches for the first month or so.
I'm also concerned about developing a tolerance for painkillers. I take them as infrequently as possible, and try to avoid them if the headache is mild enough. But I recently bought some Tylenol, which I know uses a different active ingredient than Advil, and it seems to work much better and faster. This obviously could just be a placebo effect, or a difference in the dosage.

Confused and Worried
I have been diagnosed with Pseudo Tumor Cerebi roughly 2 years ago (due to my weight and being on bith control). I had an MRI (which was normal) and a spinal tap(which they said was in the higher, normal range). I was prescribed Diamox 500mg. They worked wonders (but the manufacturer has since discontinued Diamox in Canada). Since then I have changed specialists. The Doctor I am seeing now, seemed a bit hesitant that I do actually have this condition. She has not scheduled any tests, other than a field vision, which I have done 3 times. It showed that my left eye is the worst. I was put on Acetazolamide 250mg. It took my body a long time to adjust to the amount I was taking in one day. I'm now taking them 5 times a day, and feel that they aren't doing much to help me.
The past few days I have felt very tired, can't think straight and have had reoccurring migraines that range in intensity. I am worried that these migraines are part of this condition. That is how it all started for me, I was very sensitive to light and could hear swishing in my ears that wouldn't go away. I don't get the swishing anymore (thank goodness)
I am so confused. The medications aren't working much and have been getting migraines. Also, when the new specialist seemed doubtful that I have this condition. Could it actually be something else?
Please Help!
I am lost.
Thank you,
Tracy

Numbness in leg
Hi Dr. Joshua! About two weeks ago, my lower leg became numb and I think it was due to the reason that I was sitting on them for too long or I was in a bad position. Anyways, the numbness is from the mid leg section all the way to the toes. It's been 2 weeks and the numbness got better, from not being able to walk to now being able to walk, but still feeling a little numb.
What could be the cause of this?
Thanks!
